New Fear In Gaining the Weight Back

You might remember the story I told you about the woman who came into my work, talking about this terrible diet with injections, that cost 5000$ and made her really sick?

Do you remember the part where I say she did gain all the weight back?

Well this idea has clearly been implanted in my head because I can’t stop thinking about it. Do you know why? She informed me that after 3 years she gained it all back…

Wait what?

She told me she kept it off for 3 years and then one day just GAINED IT ALL BACK!

Cue the hyperventilating… now.

3 years is more than 5 days for every pound lost.

I don’t know what to think. I’m totally scared.

My plan was to continue on with my bodybuilding passion for 3 years of competing, maybe more, maybe less depending on how well I do in competitions (I want to continue working out for life and building muscle, but not competitions).

Once I am finished competing I want to fall back on Phase 3 of Dukan, pick up where I left off (with about 450 more days of Consolidation) and then move onto the last Phase.

But this news has frightened me. What if I move on to the last Phase after all that time, and just gain the weight back? Is there no amount of days that guarantees the weight wont creep back on, or is it just while following a dangerous and severely unhealthy diet like the one she followed?

Gaining the weight back is absolutely my number one fear, it just can’t happen, but I don’t want to be super-strict with my dieting for the rest of my life. I want to get to the point where my friends ask me out to sushi and I can not only say yes, but I can eat it without that fear, and guilt.

I was hoping, with the way it was put in Dr Dukans book, that once you get off consolidation, that was it. No guilt, protein Thursdays for the rest of your life but no fear of gaining the weight back.

I understand that throughout Dukan you learn the skills necessary to no longer overeat, to be more conscientious of your bad eating habits… but still.



  1. I don't think you should be scared because you now have the knowledge of what it takes to live healthy. You know exactly how you put the weight on, and you know that you wont go there again. You remember what it felt like every day to lug the excess around, and you know how good it feels to be YOU now!

    Don't be scared of regaining the weight, use the needle womans story to motivate you for life.

  2. You don't "just" gain the weight back. That doesn't happen. That's a myth. You don't wake up one morning and find yourself 50, 100 or 150 lbs heavier. That's only a freakish nightmare. It won't happen!
    Unless you fall back into all of your bad habits, throw out your scale, refuse to look in the mirror and tell yourself that the drier is shrinking your pants. You know the mindtricks.
    As long as we keep weighing ourselves faithfully, even and especially when we are scared of what the number will show, and know that as ex-obese persons we need to be extra careful (uah, not fair! ... tough) ... going back on Dukan Cruise or Attack will kill any problem in the bud.
    It's up to us not to let things go out of hand.

  3. I agree with the other comments, as long as you are weighing yourself and dont put on more than 5lbs - and you know its going to rise - look at what you're doing and re evalutate.

  4. I agree. You know what to watch for, and what to do about any pounds that creep back on. Remember too how she lost it, and how quickly, and how bad that way is. You'll be totally fine. Just continue being (the new) you.

  5. adding my support as well, you know you are going to gain weight according to the scales - that is inevitable with body building I am pretty sure, but as Moonday says you don't suddenly wake up 100 pounds heavier.....WORST NIGHTMARE EVER by the way.

    You know you don't ever want to be that weight again, and I can't imagine you would just let it happen because you couldn't be bothered fixing it early?

    Life is going to throw things at you - babies maybe, middle age, menopause - all things which stuff up women's hormones, but you know how to handle your body and its needs.

    Trust yourself. You can be honest with yourself now and say that eating an entire cheesecake is not healthy...without all the "justifications" in your head. As long as you are always honest with yourself you won't gain it back, inn my honest opinion.

  6. We have the tools for that to never happen. That lady didn't have the tools. Shooting yourself up with artificial hormones doesn't teach you anything. Dukan teaches you... You have learned well! As long as you continue to eat healthy and MOVE you will stay fabulously the way you want to be :)

    Don't be afraid, you already have the knowledge you need. Are you going to go out to eat on a daily basis for weeks on end, without it "clicking" in your mind that you simply can't do that? I think not.
    You've written before about people that were unsupportive and destructive to your diet and weight loss, etc.
    This woman, who you were excited to speak to in English came in, your walls and guard was down, and she stomped right over you. She lost her battle, and laid it out on you.
    She didn't wake up one day and have all the weight back.
    She did wake up one day, after many many days, weeks, months of doing all the things she knew she shouldn't, finally got on the scale and looked in the mirror, and on THAT DAY realized she'd not only lost the battle, the war was over, and she gave up on herself.
    That was her war, and her battle- it isn't yours. Put her out of your mind. Go back and read your posts, your messages, your emails and find your inspiration again. You have the knowledge, and you are a wealth of information and support for all of us.
    Have no fear! You are aware and on top of your life. Sadly, this one disappointed woman jumped in and made you ask questions. Remember the questions, and keep all that you've learned, but remember, she can't own her own failures, so she's trying to pass them along.
    Be strong!! You can do it!
